Cold Steel® high-quality Tomahawks are precision-forged from 1055 carbon steel. In the manufacture of impact tools, especially those equipped with a cutting edge, stamping offers many clear advantages. With the help of various dies (hollow molds / matrices), which are connected to enormous forging hammers, the steel is molded step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and pressed to achieve a uniform grain and minimize the formation of defects. All Cold Steel® Tomahawks are also differentially hardened: the cutting edge and the impact surface of the hammer are fully hardened so that they can be sharpened, while the rest of the head is kept softer to cushion blows and impacts.
The American Tomahawk Company® is a registered trademark and a company of Cold Steel®, Inc.

Spontoon Hawks
Although most tomahawks were designed as chopping or splitting tools, there was also a less common variant, the Spontoon Tomahawk (Spontoon Hawk). Its blade, which was specifically designed for stabbing, could cause stab wounds that were often fatal. Typically, this axe had a diamond-shaped blade or an inclined blade that was sharpened on both sides. Therefore, it was almost useless as a tool for everyday use, but as a weapon it was probably terrifying and cruelly effective.
As modern spontoon hawks are extremely rare these days (apart from inferior imports), Cold Steel® decided to remedy this deficiency. The new models are available in quite classic designs with an inclined blade (inclined) or a rhomboid blade (diamond). They can be fully sharpened and are equipped with a hammer head that mimics the appearance of the pipe bowl of a traditional war axe.

1055 Carbon Steel
The carbon content and relatively small proportions of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material that is free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that are supposed to have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large knives, machetes, and swords.
