Cold Steel Trail Hawk
High-quality Cold Steel® tomahawks are precision-forged from 1055 carbon steel. In the manufacture of impact tools, especially those equipped with a cutting edge, drop forging offers many clear advantages. With the help of various dies (hollow molds/matrices) attached to massive forging hammers, the steel is molded step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and pressed to achieve a uniform grain and minimize the formation of defects. All Cold Steel® tomahawks are also differentially hardened: the cutting edge and the hammer's striking surface are fully hardened so they can be sharpened, while the rest of the head is kept softer to absorb shocks and impacts.

1055 Carbon Steel
The carbon content and relatively small proportions of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material that is free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades intended to have high impact resistance, and it is therefore often used for large knives, machetes, and swords.
