Utility Knife, 14th-15th Century
Utility Knife, 14th-15th Century
As we can see in texts such as the sermons of Sant Vicent Ferrer, parents often gave their children a knife from a young age. It was a very useful tool for the needs of the time, as it might be necessary to cut something at the table, in the workshop, in the field, or even in the face of some terrible disagreement! Based on an illustration from the Tractatus de Ludo Scacorum, this model with a curved and wide blade was quite common between the mid-14th and 15th centuries. An ideal companion for both the peasant and the soldier.
Specifications:
Blade length: 14.4cm
The sheath shown in the images is for illustrative purposes only and may not match the appearance of the one supplied and shipped. This is because the finish may differ depending on the leather batch or manufacturing circumstances, so the finish or color cannot be chosen.
We recommend not storing the blade inside the sheath for long periods of time because leather is a hygroscopic material and can therefore transfer moisture to the metal and rust it over time.
Carbon steel is untreated, so it may have rust, which is easily removable. You can protect this item from rust with synthetic or mineral oil.
