Viking Axe. Hand-forged Steel

Whether it was used for felling trees, building ships, houses, and furniture, or wielded in battle, the axe was an indispensable and versatile tool for Vikings. The shape and size of axe heads were determined by their intended use. There were also elaborately adorned axes that were more of a status symbol and were often buried alongside their owner.

In terms of shape, the Viking axe head we offer here is classified as a Petersen Type C. The blade of this bearded axe is hand-forged from high carbon steel, and the handle is made of sturdy ash wood.

Please note that this early medieval axe is not a battle-ready weapon. It is primarily designed as a collector's item or decoration/display piece and is by no means suitable for combat reenactment. In addition to its quality as a collectible, it also fits perfectly as a prop, for example, to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud warrior perfect.

Details:

- Blade material: high carbon steel (not stainless)
- Handle material: ash wood
- Overall length (with shaft): approx. 60 cm
- Shaft length: approx. 56.5 cm
- Shaft thickness: approx. 2.5 x 3.5 cm
- Head: approx. 18 x 12 cm

Specifications may vary slightly from piece to piece.

The steel used here is not rustproof and may show slight surface tarnish in some places. We recommend that you maintain the blade regularly, for example, by using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideal for steel care.
