Throwing Axe

The throwing axe could be used in two ways in battle: in hand it was a deadly weapon quite capable of splitting helmets or breaking chainmail and shields. Thrown from a distance as a volley, it could in turn disrupt enemy ranks and thus help break through a shield wall.
