The Woodsman from the Swedish manufacturer Casström is a classic forest knife. It was designed by Roger Harrington, a British custom knife maker and experienced outdoor enthusiast who has been offering survival and bushcraft courses for individuals and military personnel with his company Bison Bushcraft in Sussex, England for twenty years.

The approx. 9 cm long blade of this robust full-tang bushcraft knife is made of approx. 4 mm thick Böhler K720 tool steel (carbon steel) with a Rockwell hardness of 58-60 HRC. It is therefore extremely hard-wearing and perfectly suited for tasks that require a lot of stress, such as batoning wood or so-called feather sticks. The knife still remains light and easy to carry. With its Scandi grind, the blade is very stable and can be easily sharpened on a small, flat sharpening stone in the forest or outdoors. This knife is simply a great all-round tool for use in the field.

The curly birch handle is straight and has rounded edges, making it suitable for as many hand sizes as possible. It is fitted with a leather lanyard and black liners have been installed between the handle and the steel to increase the knife's lifespan.

The knife is delivered with a wear-resistant, vegetable-tanned leather sheath in cognac brown. The sheath has a belt loop, a drainage hole, and for this particular model, a fire steel holder that accommodates a fire steel with a matching handle.

Information on the steel: Böhler K720 / O2 The steel is an extremely robust, oil-hardened tool steel with a high carbon content. This steel is designed for strength and edge retention. Thanks to its chemical composition, it can be heat-treated at high temperatures without losing its ductility and toughness. The result is a blade that shows high edge retention even under heavy use and, at the same time, remains scratch-free and crack-resistant for longer. This steel also has a very fine structure and can therefore be easily sharpened to a razor-like sharpness.

Note: if the blade is left damp or wet or stored, it will tarnish due to its low chromium content. Therefore, to prevent rust formation, it should always be wiped dry immediately after use, and if it is stored for a long time and not used, it should be treated with a suitable protective oil or wax beforehand.
