Sgian Dubh Scottish Knife 0201022623
This small knife from Scotland is hand forged with a decorated wooden handle. This traditional Scottish knife, also known as "sock dagger" is worn in the right sock, so that only the top of the handle can be seen. It originally served ceremonial purposes.
Since the 18th century, the Sgian Dubh has been part of the basic equipment of every Scottish Highlander. The name comes from Gaelic and means "black". It is unclear whether this refers only to the colors of the hilt, which was actually predominantly black or dark brown, or if "hidden" is another meaning, or "hidden" is derived.
